Telelogic Rhapsody for DoDAF Add On

Achieving DoDAF Compliance for Defense Architectures is a time consuming and difficult task. The guidelines laid out to describe enterprise architectures have clear process gaps that can lead to inconsistent architectures. Telelogic® Rhapsody for DoDAF Interface™ provides an advanced modeling environment to support the design, construction, and analysis of DoDAF compliant architectures - ensuring consistency through allowing users to validate the architecture by simulating the model, automatically generate derived products and complete DoDAF documentation, and achieve full traceability in its requirements driven environment. Rhapsody DoDAF Add On uses standard DoDAF notation, allowing users to define and construct DoDAF-compliant architectures in a single environment, dramatically improving communication between the DoD, contractor, and the supplier for the industry’s only comprehensive DoDAF solution.

Constructing Architecture Model

Rhapsody, together with the Rhapsody for DoDAF Add On provides a world class Model-Driven Development Solution for creating Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) compliant architecture models. The Rhapsody Solution uses standard DoDAF diagrams and notations built on top of industry standards such as UML™ 2.0 and OMG SysML 1.0. These diagrams and notations are easily communicated and understood by a wide audience, greatly improving the consistency and comparability of architectures, while ensuring the interoperability of systems. In addition, the Rhapsody solution provides a set of helpers to guide and automate several steps in the workflow for constructing DoDAF compliant architecture models.

Ensuring Architecture Model

Coherency A Rhapsody model can be both statically and dynamically examined for inconsistencies across architecture products and DoDAF views ensuring the coherency of the architecture model. In addition, the ‘derived’ architecture products are automatically generated and viewed from the work products that they correlate with, ensuring their correctness and consistency with the rest of the architecture model. Rhapsody for DoDAF Add On generates a Microsoft Word Document (.doc) file or HTML file containing DoDAF architecture products from a Rhapsody model. The process of generating a document is largely pushbutton, and requires minimal interaction with the user. The content of the document is extracted from a Rhapsody Model created by the user.

Measuring Architecture Effectiveness through Simulation

By simulating the Rhapsody model, the architecture’s ability to meet its operational goals can be measured, and its effectiveness in comparison with other architecture models can be observed. The operational scenarios captured as event traces can be executed against the model, and the response of the architecture model can be recorded. In addition, using the automated testing capabilities in Rhapsody, robustness of an architecture model can be analyzed, and a suite of functional verification tests can be generated from the model.
